New York City Chapter Project 3
Vocational Instructor, Pete Gonzalez, Grady High School, uses the OHC project as a way to teach his students a thing or two about the real world. It is good to see that the students are wearing safety goggles as well as using gloves. Students of the Alfred E. Smith are among instructors Peter Gonzalez(blue sweatshirt) and in the rear, Orvil Boatswai.
November 2009, Oil Heat Cares proves that it helps in more ways than just keeping folks warm. Members of the New York City Chapter took on a project for the Lawrence F. Keane American Legion. The 150 member post found itself to be in a situation where they had to close the 40 year plus building on occasion due to the heating system. It was tired and inefficient and needed to be replaced but the Legion had no funds.

The building is utilized by the members twice a week for dinners and rented out to local organizations so keeping it open is important. Assemblyman, Michael Benedetto, reached out to local wholesaler, Bob Bieder, Weschester Plumbing who in turn contacted Angel Gonzalez, Combind Oil, New York City Chapter. Angel thought it might be a good way to get the students of Alfred E. Smith involved in a teaching project.

So everyone wins – the American Legion and the students. On a side note, OHC requested the use of the facility for a future fundraiser. Dan Holohan plans to do a Dead Men Steam seminar April 2010 – so OHC too benefits from this project.
