Rhode Island Chapter Project 1
Miss Bridget enjoys the benefits of a nice warm oil fired water heater.
The mission of Oil Heat Cares is helping those within our neighborhoods. For the Rhode Island Chapter it became quite personal for one of its members, Dave Palmer, Palmer Oil. Little 5-year old Bridget, a neighbor of Dave’s, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor just 3 days after celebrating her birthday. The good news was that the surgery to remove the tumor went well but the sad news was that little Bridget needed to go through chemotherapy and radiation.

So the little blonde lost all of her hair over night and according to Dave, her parents Don and Lily suffered tremendously watching their little girl suffer through the nasty treatments. It was tough on their entire family and particularly difficult for their 3-year old son Aidan.

Dave experienced what many of us feel at a time like this, what can we do? He learned that the old water heater just wasn’t able to provide the family with comfortable hot water that they needed not just for bathing, but for helping relieve the added stress. So Dave looked to Oil Heat Cares for support – Weil-McLain donated the tank, the Rhode Island Chapter supported this effort and Marc and Pete Dupuis of Dupuis Oil donated the labor.

On a positive note, Bridget completed her treatments April 2006 and the outlook for the future is positive.
