2008 OHC Cup award winners

After an exhausting year of travel, the Oil Heat Cares Cup safely arrived back in Hartford just in time to be accepted by the 2008 winner(s). The 2007 award went to several NAOHSM chapters and thus had travelled from Maine down to Virginia this past year. Its last stop was Virginia and the Tidewater Chapter had to ship it to Hartford and it arrived Tuesday of our Awards Banquet.

Annually the Board of OHC looks at the projects completed and decides upon the winner for that year. Who will be awarded the Cup at NAOHSM’s (National Association of Oil Heating Service Managers) annual Awards Dinner held during the Association’s annual convention and trade show? Who will have the opportunity to hold the Cup for that year? Again this year, it was tough to decide on a winner.

We’ve learned that this is an impossible task. But this year we narrowed it down to 3 chapters – the Garden State Chapter (they have done the most projects and continually contribute dollars), the Rhode Island Chapter who did two Habitat homes and the New York City Chapter for Emmaus House. This particular one really caught our attention because of the speed in which it was handled. A call came from the pastor at Emmaus House in Harlem NY and an e-mail was sent to members, Angel Gonzalez and Dave Wagner and the wheels were put in motion. Angel was going into Harlem to look at a job the day after I got the call and he made an appointment and accessed the situation. Emmaus House serves the neighborhood with food and clothing and houses people as well. Within a very short time Angel and Dave gathered volunteers and the project completed.

The Board had its work cut out for them this year with an amazing number of projects from which to choose. There were 32 projects completed. To get a good sampling of the projects visit our showcase www.oilheatcares.com.
